When did you leave Chesterton Community College?
I finished my studies at Chesterton Community College in 2011.
What is your current job title or field?
I am a Specialised Cardiac Physiologist.
Did you know as a teenager which career you wanted to pursue, or did you come to realise this later on?
As a teenager, I always had an interest in education and healthcare. However, it was during various work experiences, particularly my placement in the Accident & Emergency department that I realised my passion lays in the medical field.
How did you start your career?
I began my journey by completing Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care at CRC. From there, I pursued higher education at Anglia Ruskin University. Initially, I was torn between nursing and other healthcare-related courses, but through extensive research, I discovered a deep interest in Healthcare Science.
During my first year, I gained diverse exposure through placements in respiratory physiology, cardiac physiology, sleep studies, and vascular physiology. In my second year, I decided to specialise in cardiac physiology. I achieved one of my proudest milestones by graduating with First-Class Honours in a BSc in Healthcare Science.
What do you like about your job? High points?
The field of cardiac physiology is truly captivating. I find it immensely rewarding to work closely with patients, helping those with mild to severe cardiovascular conditions. Knowing that my expertise can positively impact their health makes each day fulfilling.
I began working at Royal Papworth Hospital – UKs leading heart and lung hospital, where I built upon the knowledge and skills I had acquired at university. This role provided me with extensive learning opportunities to develop the expertise required to diagnose cardiovascular abnormalities.
With in my second year, I was promoted to Specialised Cardiac Physiologist. My responsibilities include independently conducting various non-invasive diagnostic tests, such as ECG, Exercise Tolerance Tests and Myocardial Perfusion Imaging. I am also skilled in interpreting cardiac devices & generating reports. I am skilled in defibrillation and CPR.
I deeply enjoy my role because witnessing the varying standards of healthcare has been both eye opening and profoundly emotional. The opportunity to make a positive difference in someone’s life is what motivates and fulfills me. I take immense pride in working within a dynamic, specialist hospital environment where I can contribute meaningfully to patient care and the outcomes.
What is the first advice you would give a student wanting to follow this direction?
Believe in yourself and your abilities, and never let anyone discourage you. With dedication, hard work, and a clear vision of your goals, you can achieve incredible things. Stay curious, stay determined, and embrace every opportunity to grow and learn.
