Shukria Choudry

Admissions Officer

When did you leave Chesterton Community College?

I left Chesterton Community College in 2012.

What is your current job title or field?

I am an Admissions Officer, working within the higher education sector.

Did you know as a teenager which career you wanted to pursue, or did you realize this later on?

As a teenager, I wasn’t entirely sure about my career path. However, as I progressed through my studies and gained more exposure to different industries, I developed a strong interest in higher education and student admissions. My passion for helping students navigate their educational journeys became clear over time.

How did you start your career?

After leaving Chesterton, I attended Cambridge Regional College (CRC) to study Business Studies. I then progressed to Anglia Ruskin University, where I earned a First Class Honours degree in Business Management in 2017.

Following my graduation, I started my career as an Admissions Officer for a private education provider, where I gained valuable experience working with various universities. Over time, I advanced in my career and later joined ARU College, where I continue to support students in achieving their academic goals.

What do you like about your job? What are the high points?

I love the structure and organisation that comes with my role, as well as the opportunity to interact with students from diverse backgrounds. One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is helping students achieve their dreams by guiding them through the admissions process and seeing them succeed. Additionally, working in higher education allows me to continuously learn and adapt to changes in the sector, which keeps my role dynamic and engaging.

What is the first piece of advice you would give to a student wanting to pursue this career?

My biggest piece of advice would be to gain experience in an educational or administrative setting as early as possible. Whether through internships, volunteering, or part time work, exposure to student services, admissions, or administrative roles will provide valuable insights into the field. Strong communication, organisation, and problem solving skills are essential, so developing these will set you apart.
